After months of hemming and hawing, I’m finally posting a blog. I figure the start of a new year is just as good as any time to start a blog, what the Hell? Why not? Now to tell you a little about myself:
Its true. I’m a ditz, or a “dither brain” for anyone who’s seen “The Maxx”. Around the end of 2009, a wonderful artist by the name of Liz Cortez found me at a party, going on about how I always have misadventures, but never get a chance to really express what happened . She was intrigued, and introduced herself by cutting into my conversation. I was intrigued, too. I mean, she didn’t make a pass at me, and didn’t offer to buy me a drink at first; what the fuck was up her sleeve? So after about the 5th round and an after hours dinner at The 5 Point, we decided that we needed to find me an outlet. She signed me up for Burlesque 101 at Indigo Blue’s Academy of Burlesque. I didn’t immediately show up. I sent her in my place the first couple of times to find out if she liked it. She did, and she dragged me in on the 3rd or 4th class (can’t remember, I had to be really drunk to go), but I liked it. I mean really liked it. It definitely informed me of any misinformation that had been thrown at me about the Art of Burlesque: the tease, the comedy, the control!
It was good for both of us, really. Since then I’ve been performing at Bacon Strip, The Academy of Burlesque’s Alumni Shows, and a couple of fundraisers. I’ve also been lucky enough to participate in an Atomic Bombshell show (“Lost in Space”) and be an onstage assistant for one of my instructors, The Shanghai Pearl.
Right now, I’m getting ready for my show, Mitzy’s Ditzy Glitzy Variety Show. This started out of a few fundraisers I did for Open Circle Theater. We decided to go forward with a monthly late nite show that was all mine! I recruit the talent, I emcee, and sometimes, if you’re lucky, I also dance in it. So check out the show if you like, its at 2222 2nd ave, between Belltown Buddah and the new wine bar. You should also see a sandwich board with the info on it. There will be a show finishing just before that so don’t be in a hurry to make the 10pm curtain; there’s a good chance we’ll still be getting our bearings together. In fact, there is so much going on that my twin, Mitzy 666, will actually be performing because I will be busy making the show run smoothly!…I hope she doesn’t ditch us, but she’s unpredictable so who knows. I like to tell people she’s so unpredictable, our mother didn’t even know she was in the womb! Fo realz, she was a surprise to her, me and the bartender that had to deliver us…In fact I think he was the most shocked by the whole experience.
Well, lovelies, that’s all for now. See you at Open Circle? 10pm? Save some mystery beer for me!
